MEA’s 2024 Election Endorsements
MEA’s 2024 Election Endorsements
Thank you for considering your union’s recommendations as you prepare to cast your vote this year. Addressing the issues you care about requires good partners and adequate resources.
Your elected MEA Board of Directors has endorsed the following candidates and measures in the City of San Diego:
Citywide:
Mayor: Todd Gloria
Mayor Todd Gloria has been a good partner to MEA. He recognizes the vital role of City employees and MEA was able to secure the current historic MOU terms with his help. He also understands that a strong pension is needed to recruit and retain City employees.
City Attorney: Heather Ferbert
Heather Ferbert is a long-time City employee, having worked her way up through the ranks in the City Attorney’s Office to her current position as Chief Deputy City Attorney. She has extensive experience with how the City Attorney’s Office works with each City department and what it is to be a City employee.
Measure E: YES!
A one-cent increase to the City of San Diego sales tax would generate an additional $400 million per year for the City to invest in services, infrastructure, and the employees that deliver them. Currently, the City sales tax is one of the lowest in the region, leaving much-needed revenue on the table. This increase would move the City’s rate closer to the regional middle while enabling investments in our City.
Council Districts:
Council District 3: Stephen Whitburn
Stephen Whitburn has stood with MEA members for every vote at City Council. We look forward to his partnership for another term on the Council.
Council District 9: Sean Elo-Rivera
Sean Elo-Rivera believes in City employees and has shown his leadership by working with MEA to bring forward difficult, but critical solutions to the structural budget deficit. Only through having adequate resources can the City invest in services and the employees that deliver them.
