On-Line Voting for MEA Negotiating Team Now Open!
Electronic voting for MEA’s new Negotiating Team is NOW OPEN via MEA’s website! Voting will continue for two weeks through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9 in order to ensure that members have ample time to vote. This is your opportunity to directly participate in one of the most important activities of MEA—selecting the team that will be negotiating the next contract that affects your wages, benefits and the overall quality of your work life.
The MEA Negotiating Team is made up of three representatives from each of the four bargaining units that MEA represents. Working with lead MEA negotiator Ann Smith, ex-officio members of MEA’s Executive Committee and MEA General Manager Mike Zucchet, the team “meets and confers” with the City’s authorized representatives to bargain and to attempt to reach an agreement on a new labor contract.
There are three different elections for the following bargaining units: Administrative Support/Field Service Unit, Supervisory Unit and Professional Unit. There is no election taking place in the Technical Unit because no nominating forms were submitted by prospective candidates. The three seats in that Unit will instead be filled by appointment. The election results and MEA’s new Negotiating Team will be announced the week of December 12 after the election is complete. Negotiations on MEA’s next contract will begin in January.
To vote, you must be an MEA member in one of the three bargaining units conducting an election. Simply click on the link below, log in to MEA’s website, and cast your vote(s) electronically. If you are having any problems logging in or voting, please contact MEA staff for assistance at 619-264-6632.
MEA is moving to on-line voting in order make election participation more convenient for you. Conducting the election electronically will also save thousands of dollars in postage and printing costs associated with mail ballots. If for any reason you are unable to vote electronically, we will work to make alternative voting arrangements for you. If you have any questions, or need more information, please don’t hesitate to call MEA at 619-264-6632.
The strength of MEA depends on the active involvement of members like you, and voting in MEA elections is an important aspect of Union participation…so please cast your vote today!
